How many accountants do you know who carry a pager?
Not many, we’d wager. There can’t be many emergencies that require an accountant to come running at a moment’s notice, dropping everything in an attempt to sort out a life-or-death VAT issue or bookkeeping malfunction.
But the staff at CEJ Contractor Accountants are no ordinary accountants. One member of staff can indeed be found packing a pager as well as a smartphone and laptop, and can regularly be spotted dashing out of Albert House at a moment’s notice to attend a coastal emergency as part of the Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team.
Ben, for it is he, has been one of the 10-strong Meols-based team since August 2015, and recently went on a off-road driving course to sharpen his skills behind the wheel of the teams 4x4 pick-up truck.
With the coastguard regularly being called out to Hilbre Island, Thurstaston and New Brighton to name a few places. Learning how to be able to handle a vehicle offroad is vital, to get to people who are in need of help and in a traumatic situation – “slow as necessary, fast as possible” is the key phrase,– and everyone at CEJ is immensely proud of Ben and his life-saving sideline.
If only that pager would stop going off every time it’s his turn to make the tea…
