Being located a stone’s throw away from one of the North Wests leading water sports facilities, the team thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to test the water with an afternoon of windsurfing.
Having been kitted out with a wetsuit and lifejacket and a 30-minute basics of windsurfing lesson these contractor accountants were ready to go and dip a toe in the water.
It wasn’t so much dipping a toe in but more dipping a whole body in as things got off to a pretty wet start. Especially when Bryan took the lead and was sent into the water first. He managed an impressive 3 seconds before falling off and entertaining the people walking past.
Everyone else slowly improved when setting off lasting a bit longer than 3 seconds, but when a 16-year-old who had been given the chance to try windsurfing flew past all of us we had to step up.
The team gradually got the hang of it. Before long they were all flying around the lake like old hands at windsurfing, only every now and again making a splash in the water that would have made Free Willy proud.
The afternoon was rounded off with a nice cool beer, which was required to get the taste of salt water out of our mouths.
